Croydon's new Community Diagnostic Centre is now open

A new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) opened in Croydon last month, offering faster access to vital tests and scans closer to where local residents live.

The new centre was made possible following £14m investment to build two CDC’s in the south of Croydon. It is part of the NHS’ national programme to deliver more diagnostic services in community settings, helping reduce waiting times and hospital pressures and will aim to mirror the success of the borough’s other diagnostic centre in Purley.

Healthwatch Croydon was commissioned by Croydon Health Services NHS Trust to understand the experiences of patients at Purley Community Diagnostic Centre.  Our patient experience insights at this centre have helped shape the services offered by the new Community Diagnostic Centre in New Addington.
The New Addington facility provides a wide range of diagnostic tests including ultrasound, X-ray, and CT scanning outside of the traditional hospital setting, alongside other imaging, cardiology and respiratory services.

The centre also houses a GP practice, run by Bourne Health, offering patients greater access to primary care appointments and joined up care when they are referred for testing or scans.

The launch of the borough’s newest CDC is the latest in a number of initiatives designed to improve to health services across Croydon. We now have two diagnostic centres in Croydon.

Croydon was recently selected as just one of 43 pilot sites for the roll out of the Government’s new ambitions for neighbourhood health and the local NHS has also started work on a new health centre in the south of the borough, designed to increase access to GP appointments.
