Understanding the Unique Health Challenges Faced by Refugees and Asylum Seekers
Refugees and asylum seekers often encounter health challenges that’re distinct, influenced by their experiences both prior, to and after their arrival in the UK. At Healthwatch Croydon we recognize the importance of providing care that is centered around individuals needs supporting their resilience as they adjust to life in the UK.
These include diseases, poorly managed chronic conditions, maternity care and mental health support. We place emphasis on healthcare measures such as screenings for contagious diseases and vaccination protocols. Additionally we offer guidance on topics like genital mutilation (FGM) and trauma care. These areas require an approach that takes into account sensitivities. Moreover our commitment extends beyond those seeking healthcare services. We provide resources and support, for doctors and medical practitioners who may be involved in caring for refugees and asylum seekers. Our aim is to equip them with the knowledge and tools required to deliver care. Discover our Toolkit, for Refugee and Asylum Seeker Health Patients to gain an understanding of the health obstacles they face. Together we can work towards addressing these challenges and promoting the well being of our community.
