Shopping bus for older people in Thornton Health

Do you care for, or, do you know of an older person (aged 60+) who lives in the Thornton Heath area and needs help with their shopping?

Croydon BME Forum will start a new service in March of this year, aimed at isolated older people, those with mobility problems and/or anyone else who finds it difficult to go shopping. Once a week for £3 per person, a minibus will pick them up from their home address, take them to Sainsbury’s in Purley Way, help them shop (if needed) and drive them back home. Bookings will be required.

We are also looking for friendly and reliable volunteer escorts to assist older people on the bus and with their shopping (if needed) and socialise with them. This opportunity would suit people who can commit once a week, want to give something back to the community and learn new skills. We welcome friends who want to volunteer together. Training will be provided.

The service is likely to be on a Monday and volunteers need to be available from 9:30am-1:30pm for at least six months.
