Croydon Council: support for Rough Sleepers

If you see someone sleeping rough this winter (bedded down in the outside), ask if they are already known to services.

What do you need to tell StreetLink?

  • The precise location where you saw someone rough sleeping.
  • When the person was seen sleeping rough at the location.
  • Descriptive information about the person (gender, approximate age, clothing, what the person looks like).
  • Rough sleepers can also refer themselves to StreetLink the service through the same number.

Once the person is verified by the Street Link Rapid Response Team they will be referred to Croydon Reach (who will help identify suitable housing and support with other issues such as mental health and substance misuse). If you think the person you are concerned about is under 18 call the Police on 999 – Do not contact StreetLink.

If someone is homeless, but not sleeping rough, they should submit this self-help application on the Council website Housing options self-help tool | Croydon Council. They will receive an appointment with the Triage team in 2/3 weeks from the day of the request and asked to provide proof of a range of things on the day (For example 3 month’s bank statements, letter to prove landlord’s eviction etc.)

Croydon Borough Council: Closed on Monday 26, Tuesday 27, Wednesday 28 December 2022 and Monday 2 January 2023.

Support for the homeless in the voluntary sector

CAYSH: Provides supported accommodation for 16-25-year-olds (must have a Croydon connection; born, lived or been at school in the borough, family or relatives living there), via referrals from Croydon Council and DIZ team based at Bernard Weatherhill House. Please note – 16 to 17 years olds should be referred to ‘SPOC’ 020 8726 6100 ext. 84307, before being passed to the Croydon Council DIZ Team for an assessment.

Crisis Skylight Croydon: Supports those experiencing homelessness, or are at risk of homelessness. Showers/washing facilities are available to our ‘street homeless members’. Whilst our door is open during Skylight opening hours, potential members will be offered a triage appointment, to establish if/how we can support them to end their homelessness, rather than offering facilities without ongoing support. We are open Monday – Friday between 10 am and 4 pm (closed during Bank Holidays). We are not a day centre/accommodation provider. You can self-refer by email croydon@crisis.org.uk | telephone 0203 848 1700 and our team will be happy to help (we aim to respond within 2 working days). Website: www.crisis.org.uk/get-help/croydon/  Closed Monday 26, Tuesday 27, December & Monday 2 January 2023.

Croydon Churches’ Floating Shelter (CCFS) will NOT be operating this winter (2022/23) but they will be providing sandwiches to Nightwatch every night from 1 November 2022 to 31 March 2023.

London Youth Gateway: A partnership between New Horizon Youth Centre, Depaul UK, Shelter, Stonewall Housing, akt, Galop and Praxis, providing holistic and youth specific support to young people (18-25) facing homelessness or rough sleeping in London. We work together to make sure young people in London are safe and supported while we help them to achieve long-term stability in terms of housing, income, health, and migration status. Young people can make a self-referral using our online form available here: https://www.londonyouthgateway.org.uk/young-people or call freephone number: 0800 1601 106. For more information, please email lyg@nhyouthcentre.org.uk
